Jay Gruden's Jalen Hurts tweet reopened old wounds for RG3.

While the rest of the football world was watching the NFL playoffs on Monday night, a simple take by former Washington head coach Jay Gruden reopened old scars for one of his former quarterbacks, Robert Griffin III.

As a result, the coach and quarterback engaged in a Twitter spat to remember.

As the two sparred, former Washington kick returner Brian Mitchell got involved, resulting in a spat between Gruden and him.

The incident began with Gruden tweeting his thoughts on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' persistent pressure on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Gruden felt forced to apologize if he failed to make adjustments to safeguard any of his previous quarterbacks.

Commanders supporters are fully aware of the friction between Griffin and Gruden. Gruden replaced Mike Shanahan as Washington's head coach in 2014,

Griffin, who tore his ACL in 2012, wanted to be a pocket quarterback. Gruden appeared to be a strong fit after being a successful offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.

However, the partnership never clicked from the beginning.
